Large print that means it

The PDF of this puzzle is set in genuinely large type: a roomy 10x10 grid with big cells, and a word list printed just as large. No magnifier, no guessing whether that letter is an E or an F. On screen, the board scales to your device, and the same ten words are in play: garden, coffee, sunrise, music, flowers, memory, puzzle, smile, family and picnic.

Who asks for this page

Grandparents who love word searches but not eight point type, activity coordinators in senior centres who print by the stack, and teachers of new readers who want letters a small finger can land on. The word list was chosen to be warm on purpose; a relaxing puzzle should not be hunting the word BUREAUCRACY.

Print it or play it

Print the free large type PDF (that is the point of this page), or play it right here. The solution sheet prints in the same big letters, because squinting at the answers defeats the purpose.

Frequently asked questions

Is the large print word search free to print?

Yes. The large print word search is free to download and print for personal use, for care homes, for day centres, for sight-loss groups and for classrooms, with no account and no attribution. Print as many copies as the room needs. Resale and re-uploading are the only limits: see the licensing policy.

What makes this a large print puzzle, and who is it for?

Two things: the grid is only 10x10 and the type is set much bigger than on our other sheets, so each letter has room to breathe. It is built for anyone who does not want to squint, which in practice means older solvers, people with low vision, and children who are still learning their letters.

Can I play the large print word search online?

Yes, and the browser version has an advantage: you can zoom the page in your browser to make the letters bigger still, on top of the large type. The grid works with a mouse or a fingertip. The free printable PDF stays available, and the how-to-print guide explains how to fill the whole sheet.

Is there an answer key?

Yes. A separate solution PDF marks all ten words on the same large 10x10 grid, in the same generous type, so the answers are as readable as the puzzle. Download it with the Solution button. Activity coordinators usually print one and keep the rest of the copies clean.

Seven large print word searches to print, and the letters stay big on every one

The board on this page is the general one. Six more print from here, and the one thing none of them gives up is cell size: every sheet is set at a 44 point cell or larger, roughly a third bigger than the rest of the site, and the word list under the grid is set large to match. What changes around that big cell is the shape of the sheet. An 8x8 at a 60 point cell carrying the largest letters here, a board with no diagonal on it anywhere, that same board with all eight directions turned on, an 11x11 that is the biggest square the large cell allows on a sheet of paper, ten verbs, and the numbers one to twelve. No word appears on two of them.

The 10x10 board on this page

The playable board above, printed at the large cell this whole page exists for: ten warm everyday words on a 10x10 grid, with the answer list underneath set in the same generous type.

Biggest print word search to print, an 8x8 grid with window, cushion and slipper in giant letters

The biggest letters on the site

Six words on an 8x8 grid printed at a sixty point cell, the largest letter this site sets: fewer words, far more paper for each of them, and nothing on the sheet that needs a magnifier.

No diagonals word search to print, a 10x10 large print grid with crossword, teacup and biscuit

No diagonals anywhere on the board

The gentlest sheet on this page: nine long words on a 10x10 grid at the big cell, and not one diagonal on it. This build went further and put every single word straight down the board.

All directions large print word search, a 10x10 grid with marble, velvet and thimble

All eight directions, still large print

The same 10x10 board and the same big cell as the sheet above with exactly one thing changed: all eight directions are live here, so words run diagonally and backwards as well as across and down.

An 11x11, the largest the big cell allows

One more row and one more column than the board on this page, at the same large cell, which is the biggest square that fits on a sheet of paper with a readable word list still underneath it.

Verbs, ten things to do

Ten verbs where every other sheet puts nouns, and read aloud the list is really the plan for a good afternoon: walk, read, write, laugh, draw, sleep, dream, wander, plant and visit.
