What the four levels actually change
The difficulty on this site is mechanics, not a label. Our easy word search is a 10x10 grid with eight words of three or four letters, and every word runs left to right or straight down: nothing backwards, nothing diagonal. Our hard word search is a 15x15 grid with eighteen long words and all eight directions live. In between, the adults word search is a 14x14 grid with sixteen words of six to twelve letters, also with all eight directions live. The large print word search is a fourth thing entirely: a 10x10 grid set in much bigger type, for anyone who does not want to squint.
How to pick the right level
Match the grid to the reader, not to the age on the birth certificate. A five year old meeting a word search for the first time needs the easy sheet, where a word cannot hide backwards and so cannot betray them. A confident adult needs the 15x15, because on a smaller grid there is nowhere for eighteen words to hide. And if the person squints at the page, none of the above matters: give them the large print sheet, which is the same friendly puzzle with room to breathe.

What makes a word search easy or hard?
Three levers, and we pull them honestly. Grid size adds noise: a 15x15 has more than twice the letters of a 10x10. Word length punishes a wrong guess: one mistaken letter mid-word costs the whole line. And direction is the big one, because a word hidden backwards or diagonally sits where the eye does not naturally read.
What age is each difficulty for?
The easy word search suits ages 5 to 7 (US kindergarten to grade 1), the large print sheet suits any age but is built for older solvers and low vision, the adults word search is for about twelve upwards, and the hard word search is for teenagers and adults who want a fifteen to thirty minute fight rather than a five minute one.
Are these puzzles free to print for a classroom or a care home?

Can I play them online, or only print them?

Is there an answer key?
Yes, one per puzzle. Every word search here has a separate solution PDF that marks every word on the same grid. Download it from the Solution button. On the hard word search, using it counts as surrender, but it is also the only sane way to check a finished sheet.
